14 weeks of sweat, blood, misery, joy, and priceless experience (week 1& 2)~

There's pretty much nothing can describe this 14 weeks of my life: 5th of July ~ 8th of October 2010. The title is the closest I can think of to describe it, and it's not even close. This is the time of my life, where I had the chance to experience real working environment (and enjoying my stay at Sabah :p) and this is very important in preparing myself to tackle the real life in the future. Those 14 weeks, I was doing my internship at Sabah's Institute of Agriculture (Institut Pertanian Sabah, Timbang Menggaris, KB).

And the first day we reporting in for duty, we were tossed straight to action. We were assigned to the fertigation unit, cleaning up the mushroom house is our first assignment. Wait, what's that in front of my eyes?? I can't believe it!
I can see the famous Kinabalu Mount from here. Yes, it's a big deal for me considering it's my first time to set foot at Sabah. Anyway, the scenic view around the Institute is very beautiful. It's green as far as eye can see. Okay, back to work. Here are some activities that we were doing for 2 weeks at the Fertigation Unit.

Clearing out the weed with my weapon of choice: Duku Samurai Parang Machete.

Laying out the silvershine on top of the ground. This is to avoid the growth of weed in the rain shelter.
Demonstrated by my fellow colleague, YB Lawrence and Datuk Seri Faiq.

Installing the components of the fertigation system. That black thingy is called the dripper. We used the drip irrigation method for this system.

Burning rice husk is possibly the activity that I "enjoyed" the most in this unit. Burnt rice husk (sekam padi) is used for the planting medium in the fertigation system.

Taking a short break, after filling up about 150++ pots with burnt rice husk, arranging them in the fertigation system, and putting in the dripper.

After 2 weeks at the Fertigation Unit, we managed to transform these:

Into these:

It's pretty much satisfying, I'll have to say. With a little bit of team work, and guidance from our supervisor, we did it. Now we can plant tomatoes, chillies, honey dew maybe? But we'll have to say farewell to our newly constructed Fertigation System, cause the next week, we were assigned to the livestock unit, where we'll work with sheeps, goats, chickens and ducks. Before we leave for the next pit stop, lets take one last pic here in Fertigation Unit.
This is the Food Plant Produce Tech (Teknologi Pengeluaran Tanaman Makanan [TPTM]) students.
Thanks for all the help~

Okay, let's not waste time and move toward the sunset. To be continued~
