Week 9: A trip to Tamu Darat Agricultural Station~

There's nothing much happen this week. We were assigned at the Fruit Farm Unit which consist of guava, mangoes, etc. On the 1st of September, after a day off due to the National Day(Merdeka!), we had a trip to the Tamu Darat Agricultural Station which is about 45 minutes drive from IPS.

But first, we had to stopped at the Agriculture HQ of KB. Snap some picture, it's a must. Then, back on track again.

At the station, we were shown how is the most efficient way to do budding and grafting. It's actually a bit different from the textbook way. This is where a book can't teach you. It has to be done practically to learn it.

Cut off excessive leaves to avoid excessive water use but do leave some leaves(this is right, right?) in order for the photosynthesis process to take place.

This is an example of a successful grafted durian tree.

Make sure to cover it with transparent plastic bags to protect it from heavy downfalls that can damage the fragile poor little fella.

This is some of the durian seed we grafted that day.

We got a lot of useful tips from this veterans that had been working in the agriculture field for over than 40 years. And most of the tips also cannot be found on the regular books in the library and notes from the lecturer because theoretically and practically in agriculture is not the same sometimes.

Time to head back home. Thanks for everything Tamu Darat Agricultural Stations.

Stop by at the town of Kota Belud for lunch. This is the gateway of KB. Did I mention it is famous for its horses? Take a look at the statue.
